The state of disaster and resilience literature in British Columbia, Canada. A systematic scoping review
Report

Overview
This study reviews disaster and resilience research in British Columbia, where natural hazards like earthquakes and wildfires are common. By analyzing over 340 studies, it found that most research focuses on specific hazards—mainly earthquakes—and is led by science and engineering fields. However, there are gaps in addressing local needs, cultural context, and interdisciplinary approaches. Some regions affected by past disasters are underrepresented, and many studies aim at global audiences rather than offering practical insights for BC communities. The review highlights the need for more integrated, place-based research to better support disaster risk reduction in the province.
